Jo Fleming lives and paints in Great Falls, Virginia outside Washington, DC.
Ms. Fleming received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, Maryland. She has studied at the American University and taught in the Art Department at Montgomery College.
Fleming’s paintings focus on the environment and are at once landscape and abstract. The work contrasts the patterns of organic landscape forms with shifting architectural planes. Her most recent paintings evoke the forces of nature. Some paintings incorporate the effect of symmetry and utilize multiple canvases. These paintings offer an opportunity for a renewable composition; in different orientations and combinations, the conversation between spatial and graphic elements shifts and the composition is new.
Ms. Fleming exhibits regionally in Juried and Solo venues. The Hyatt Hotel at Dulles hosted a solo exhibition entitled “Capturing the Elements” in early 2007. Other Solo presentations of Ms. Fleming’s paintings this year will include: US Geological Survey, Washington Technology Center through Arts Council of Fairfax and Glenview Mansion in Rockville, MD.
